FIRSTS | FT RESULT - RIPLEY TOWN 4 - 2 E&K FC

Despite a spirited first half which saw E&K leading the league leaders 2-0, Ripley stormed back to take victory and with it a huge 3 points...

E&K FC made the short trip to league leaders Ripley Town in high spirits after back-to-back victories had lifted them off the foot of the table. However, Ripley are locked in a tight title race with Rowsley ’86 close behind, so the stakes were high from the outset.

The visitors couldn’t have asked for a better start. Just two minutes in, Jordan Wright continued his fine goalscoring form by firing E&K into an early lead, stunning the home side. Riding that momentum, E&K doubled their advantage soon after when a dangerous corner delivery was met powerfully by Joe Hunt, whose header made it an unlikely 2–0.

Ripley were rattled somewhat, and E&K sensed an opportunity to pile on the pressure. However, a key moment arrived when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Up stepped the Ripley penalty taker with a chance to halve the deficit, but Harry Fisher—fresh from a penalty save for the U18s the previous weekend—produced another outstanding stop to preserve E&K’s two-goal cushion heading into half-time.

Despite the shock of the first half, Ripley showed exactly why they sit top of the table. They emerged after the break with renewed composure and intensity, and the tide quickly turned. Two quick goals brought the scores level at 2–2 before E&K had time to regroup, leaving the visitors struggling to regain their earlier rhythm.

As the game wore on, fatigue began to show for E&K, and Ripley took full control. With around 20 minutes remaining, the home side completed the turnaround to go 3–2 ahead. They then added a fourth before the final whistle to seal the victory.

FT - Ripley Town 4 - 2 E&K FC

It was a match that showcased the full spectrum of football—early dominance, dramatic turning points, and ultimately the resilience of a title-chasing side. Ripley Town take another significant step toward the Division One West title, while E&K are left to reflect on a spirited and encouraging first half but the 'what could have been' feeling. Lots of positives and we move onto the next - only 3 games to go!

Managers thoughts, ‘A real show of how far we've come from the difficult conversations we had after the Rowsley and Sleetmore defeats. 2 wins out the last 3 and testing the league leaders is a huge confidence booster that we are probably better than what the league position shows. 3 to go"

Assistant Jordan Manners thoughts, ‘Very good first half however tired legs and injuries hit us hard 2nd half and we just didn’t have enough to see the game through. It was 3-2 until the 90th minute so we held out well.
