Eastwood & Kimberley produced a dominant display to secure a convincing 4–1 victory over Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves, putting the game beyond doubt with a ruthless first-half performance.
The hosts made an early breakthrough in the 10th minute through a route-one approach. A long throw-in caused chaos in the Wirksworth box, and a defensive flick inadvertently sent the ball looping across goal, where Jordan Wright was on hand to tap home from close range.
Wright doubled both his and his side’s tally just ten minutes later from the penalty spot. Corey Waters was brought down inside the area after latching onto a ball played over the top, with the Wirksworth right back mistiming his challenge and receiving a yellow card. Wright stepped up confidently and dispatched the penalty to make it 2–0.
By the half-hour mark, Wright had completed his hat-trick in style. A slick passage of play in midfield carved open the Wirksworth defence, releasing him through on goal. Showing composure, he delicately dinked the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to seal a clinical treble and put Eastwood & Kimberley 3–0 ahead.
Dreamland for those in Yellow and black who have scored only two goals in the past 5 matches but they were in cruise control. They were not finished either as the pressure didn’t relent, and a fourth goal arrived in the 40th minute. Liam Bates did superbly down the right wing, beating his man and delivering a dangerous ball into the six-yard box. Under pressure, the Wirksworth right-back could only turn it into his own net, capping a dominant first-half display and sending the hosts into the break with a commanding 4–0 lead. Only the smart reflexes of the goalkeeper prevented any more damage for the visitors.

E&K headed to the changing rooms delighted with their first 45 minutes work whilst Wirksworth were seated in a circle, within the centre circle, reminiscent of the infamous Hull City & Phil Brown team talk.
Wirksworth showed some fight early in the second half as the wind grew in strength and pulled a goal back in the 48th minute. A long ball forward was met by an excellent arched run from the striker, who struck a quick snapshot across goal that nestled into the side netting, making it 4–1.
Despite the setback, Eastwood & Kimberley remained in control, thanks in part to some brave and assured goalkeeping from U18 shot-stopper Harry Fisher, whose interventions ensured the visitors were kept at bay. The defence were rock solid throughout, the midfield worked tirelessly and the the foward three were a thorn all game.
Chances in the 2nd half were few and far between and E&K maintained composure when in previous months they may not have done.
There were a few incidents where tempers nearly boiled over with some late challenges but all was kept under control very well by the man in the middle.

In the end, it was a comprehensive and professional performance from Eastwood & Kimberley, with Jordan Wright’s hat-trick the standout contribution in a well-earned victory. The relief was felt all around the Dale and none more so than from player/manager Jack Doughty who's smile was that of a Chesire cat. It was the manner of the performance and the double edge of solidity and clinical finishing which shows that this side is capable. They showed it in abundance today.
